Ammortentia- The love potion! Except, it doesn't really create love; magical folk don't know quite how to do that. It causes an obsession with whoever made or bought it to whoever consumes it. Its effects are quite funny to watch.

Animagus- a witch or wizard that can turn into a certain animal at will. One person can only turn into one kind of animal, though. Becoming an Animagi requires lots of study and skill and every Animagus is recorded in a register by the MOM. This is because things can go horribly wrong while the transformation happens, and because they want to be able to know for sure if someone is really an animal.

Apparation- Apparating is when you pop randomly into another place. It can be done with a loud crack or bang, or simply with a quiet pop. It depends on how much skill and experience you have. It is the opposite of Disapparation.

Azkaban- the wizard prison. You are only sent to Azkaban if  you've done something so bad that the MOM can't think of anything else to do with you. Being a Death Eater is a bad enough thing to get you into Azkaban, as is blowing up a street along with everyone within twenty yards of you. Dementors guard the gates and all the cells in Azkaban, so don't get yourself landed there.

Blast-Ended Skrewt- aggressive beasts that are a mix of fire-crabs and scorpions. They have gray armor, no mouths and really bad tempers. The males have stings, the females have blood-suckers and they all have something like rocket launchers in their hindquarters. They do not hibernate and they are extremely cannibalistic. Also, Rubeus Hagrid thinks they like to go on walks.

Blood- Traitor-A witch or a wizard born in a all magic family, that does not care about his/her blood status. They usually are called that when they hang around muggles or muggle-borns.

Centaur- A creature that has a chest and head of a human, but they have the body of a horse. They are wonderful for telling the future and are excellent star gazers, but they do not want anything to do with the human race and do not want to be compared with a common horse or a mule. They also get angry real easily.

Chinese Firebolt- an extremely vicious dragon that is, um, you know what, I really don't know anything about dragons. I admit it. I'm letting Jello take over now. Okay. This is a dragon, well you knofw dragons they are vicious, but this one is not the most vicioucs one alive. This dragn was in the triwizard tournament.

Chudley Cannons- An English quidditch team that Ron strongly supports. Their colors are red and gold.

Cleansweap 97- A okay broom definatly not the fastest, but better then a commet 260, way better.

Commet 260- A very slow broom that is commenly outstriped by butterlies.

C.O.S- another name for Chamber of Secrets. No, not the place, the book.

Death Eaters- basically the man who calls himself Lord Voldemort's sidekicks. They consider themselves to be friends with him, but he is friends with no one. They are all branded with the Dark Mark (if they aren't they really aren't considered Death Eaters) and they run around in cloaks and masks. The Dark Mark is a lovely image of a skull with a snake in its mouth. Each of their masks is different, and they all fit whichever person's face it is perfectly. Death Eaters wreak havoc everywhere they go, and they take all the fun out of life for everybody else, believing that Voldemort should be the ruler of the world.

Dementor- a foul creature who sucks all the happiness out of the air. They leave you with only your worst memories and awful thoughts. If it wants to, a dementor will suck your soul out. It lifts its hood, places its 'mouth' on yours and sucks your soul out. This is called the Dementor's Kiss.

Devil's Snare- This plant is not one of the things you want in your garden! They are extremely deadly and not the prettiest plants in the world. If you are ever unfortunate enough to meet one, use a spell to create sun light. (They don't like sun light!)

D.H- another name for the Deathly Hallows. No, not the objects, the book.

Disapparation- the event in which one disappears from one place, presumably to go to another. Disapparating requires a wand, and is the opposite of Apparation.

Dragon- a vicious, winged creature. It looks kind of like a giant lizard. The female dragon is extremely protective of her eggs and young. Dragon heart string can be used as the core of a wand.

Elder Wand- one of Death's gifts to the three brothers in Beedle the Bard's story The Tale of Three Brothers. It is a wand of immense power, and cannot be beaten. (That doesn't mean that the wand-owner cannot be beaten, as those people have been beaten many times) This wand has a core of the hair from the tail of a Thestral. This makes a lot of sense, seeing as this is Death we're talking about, here.

Felix Felicis- This is a fantastic potion that will give you the best of luck. It's bubbly and gold and pretty. If you overdose, though, it will become too much of a good thing and will cause nasty side effects.

Firebolt- This is the fastest broom ever! Harry got this broom for Christmas after his old broiom was destroyed by the womping willow. This broom is exetremely fast!

Flobberworm- Flobberworms are extremely dull, incredibly boring, somewhat giant worms. They are grayish-white in color and do nothing except eat and sleep. The third years in POA are condemned to take care of these things in Care of Magical Creatures after Malfoy's traumatizing hippogriff misunderstanding.

Fluffy- A very large, vicious three headed dog that helped gaurd the sorcerer's stone. The only way to get pass Fluffy is to play music. Fluffy is based on the legendary Cerberus, of ancient Greek mythology.

Ghost- Well a ghosts in Harry Potter is not much different then other ghosts, really. They are things (usually human) that are now dead. They look exactly the way they did when they died, except now they are transparent and a silvery color. Ghosts can also only have been wizards or witches in their past lives. They have chosen to stay on earth instead of 'going on'. HP ghosts know nothing of the secrets of death. :(

Giant- They look like giant versions of humans. They usally are 20-25 feet tall, and are very stupid-looking.

G.O.F- another name for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

H.B.P.- another name for the sixth book in the series: "The Half-Blood Prince". It is also the abbreviation for the person who goes by Half-Blood Prince. Otherwise known as...(if you haven't read the sixth book, skip this part) Severus Snape -- the triple agent! :o Warning: I will not give you the meanings on some. So if you were one of those people that had know idea what H.B.P. means, I suggest you figure out most of the abbreviations by reading more Harry Potter books, or just use your brain to figure these out yourself. (JK)

HolyHead Harpies- A English quidditch team that Ginny Weasley supports. The captin of this team is Gwenog Jones. The colors of this team is green and gold.

Horcrux- an object concealing a soul inside of it. Horcruxes are not advisable to make, as you are killing someone to create it. When you make a Horcrux, you render yourself completely unstable, and it is not wise to make more than one of them, especially (as we learned from Lord Voldemort) seven of them. Horcruxes enable you to stay alive for all of eternity, unless of course something destroys it. It is extremely difficult to mutilate a Horcrux, though. A few of the substances you can use to demolish them are: basilisk venom, things imbibed with basilisk venom, Feindfire or cutting its head off (if it is a living being).

House Elf- A (how do I say this politely?) sort of ugly creature (that I think is really cute) that acts like a slave to a wizarding (usually pure-blood) family. Don't take this this wrong way. House elves actually enjoy doing their work. They obey orders without a thought. Though if you treat hose elves badly they may end up being non-obedient. (like certain house elves named Dobby.) They also have trouble speaking "ill" of their wizarding family no matter how bad they treat them. They also have magic that witches and wizards do not have in order to follow their commands. For more information on house elves, read some Harry Potter books or contact us.

H.P.- another name for Harry Potter.

Invisibility Cloak- one of Death's gifts to the three brothers in Beedle the Bard's The Tale of Three Brothers. This cloak (as the name suggests) has the power to render the wearer completely invisible. The one given to the third brother in Beedle's tale is almost invincible; it's infallible, I mean, no body's ever going to reveal you with a spell when you're under it, it can't rip or get old, and there are no spells on it to wear off with age.

Mandrakes- very cool wizard plant that's cry is fatal. When they are first planted, they are babies and their cries just knock you out cold. When they become adolescents, they try to move into each others' pots and have parties. The juice of a Mandrake has extreme healing powers that can be used for un-freezing people who have been Petrified or Paralyzed.

Metamorphmagus- a person who has the ability to change any part of their physical appearance at will. They are born (nobody can turn into one with practice or study or anything like that), they are extremely rare and they can only be a witch or a wizard. No Muggles can be metamorphmagi. Nimbus 2001- The fatest broom of it's time! Draco Malfoy's father bought this broom for the Slytherin quidditch team and in return Draco was made seeker.

Norwegian Ridgeback- A type of dragon that is very vicious. Hagrid tried to raise one ilegally in his hut. He was forced to give it to Charlie Weasley during his studies in Romania because dragons grow extremely quickly and are not to be messed with.

O.O.T.P.- another name for the Order of the Phoenix.

O.W.L.S- Ordinary Wizarding Levels. An assessment that young witches and wizards take in their 5th year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Patronus- A spell used to protect yourself against dementors. The dementor feeds off the spell rather then you. It is silver and beautiful and each one is unique to the witch or wizard that conjures it. Only a very powerful witch or wizard can produce a distinct animal of a Patronus.

Phoenix- a phoenix is a beautiful bird whose tears have extraordinary healing powers and they can carry immensely heavy loads. They have incredible loyalty and they have beautiful songs. A phoenix can be re-born again and again. When it is time for them to die, they go up in flame and are born again from the ashes. The phoenix's way of transportation is that they disappear in a burst of flame and they instantly appear at the desired destination. A phoenix feather can be used as the core of a wand.

Quidditch- The most popular wizard sport! Seven people on each team fly around on brooms. One of them is a keeper. A keeper flies around three hoops to stop the other team from scoring. There is one seeker. The seeker flies around and tries to catch a little, golden. flying ball called a snitch before the other team's seeker. Once the snitch is caught, there is 150 points awarded to that team and the game is over. There are also two beaters. They fly around trying to hit balls called, bludgers, at the other team. The beaters also have to protect their own team by hitting the bludgers away from them. Then there are three chasers. The chasers through this ball called a, quaffle. The quaffle is passed around and is thrown through the three goal hoops. Each time the quaffle goes in the hoops the team that scores is awarded ten points.

Ressurection Stone- one of Death's gifts to the brothers in Beedle the Bard's story, The Tale of the Three Brothers. This simple, black stone (with the sign of the deathly hallows on it) has the power to bring the dead back to life. However, the Stone doesn't completely raise the dead. They are separated, as though by a veil, and they aren't too happy to be back on earth. This item was turned into a Horcrux by Lord Voldemort and dropped by Harry Potter in the Forbidden Forest

S.P.E.W.- If you don't know what this means: Too bad for you! Read all the books over again! I will not let you off easy on this one! (Jill's just being stupid again. She wants to go to Yale. I do not suggest that she apply. Anyway, S.P.E.W. is an organization created by Hermione Granger in GOF. It's the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare. In book four, she becomes obsessed with house-elves. She believes that they are forced to do their work like slaves. The house-elves all think she's crazy (except Dobby), because house-elves adore serving their masters most of the time.)

Sphinx- you may have heard of all ready. They have the body of a lion and the head of a woman. They have riddles that you must answer correctly if you wish to pass them. If you don't answer correctly, it's a fight to the death, and the sphinx usually wins.

Squib- a person born into a family of witches and wizards who has as much magic as a Muggle. Squibs are extremely rare, Muggle-borns are much more common.

S.S- another name for Sorcerer's Stone. (Could also appear as P.S. because the British version is Philosopher's Stone.)

Swedish Shortsnout- a non-vicious dragon. A kind of vicious dragon?  I don't know. This was another dragon that was in the triwizard tournament.

Thestrals- black, winged, skeletal horses. A person can only see them if they have witnessed someone die. And the death has to 'sink in' before you can see them.

Unicorn- beautiful horse-like creatures with a single, long horn between its two ears. Unicorns have silvery fur, manes and tails and the hair of a unicorn can be used as the core of a wand.

There also no cure for it either. They also have no control over themselves unless they drink the wolfbane potion. (People could even kill their best friend without pity if they did not take the wolfbane potion.) The only way to be turned into a werewolf is to be bit by one. (Though some bites are so bad that person way die.) If you are bitten by a werewolf when that being is in a human form, most likely you will have some wolfish characteristics.
